Reading Tarot (For Yourself) Objectively
Most tarot readers start out by reading for themselves. After-all reading for someone else when you barely know how to give a tarot reading can be quite terrifying!
Many of us never make the leap to read for others so we only read for ourselves.
That being said, if we are our own querent how do we know that we can give ourselves an objective tarot reading? How can we be sure we’re not just seeing what we want to see?
When you need advice and your head is full of worry( or excitement!) you are going to see the cards in a biased light.
It’s easy to get lost in your head when considering all the possibilities, outcomes, worries, and other contributing factors that make up any particular situation.
So, how can we know that the advice we receive is for our highest good and not just our egos showing us what we want, or don’t want, to see?
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE OBJECTIVE
Being objective is to be non-biased or free from favor toward either or any side. Bias complicates things by interfering with our evaluations and ability to make decisions. It’s hard to trust an interpretation of a tarot reading when you cant make decisions logically or are basing them purely from emotion.
When we perceive an event it goes through a filter of past experiences, thoughts, and emotions.
All these things can unconsciously take form as a response to the cards which makes it difficult to be objective.
GIVING AN OBJECTIVE TAROT READING
The most important factor in being able to give an objective tarot reading is that you will need to have enough self awareness to know whether or not you can be objective.
You can not be objective in your reading if you are invested emotionally. This is true if you are too close to the subject or the subject gives you strong emotions.
When reading for others objectively you always want to ensure that the tarot reading is in alignment with your core beliefs.
HOW TO READ TAROT OBJECTIVELY
Distancing yourself from any strong emotions regarding the situation will allow you to think more rationally. This is your first step to reading tarot for yourself objectively.
Once you are able to take that step back focus on the situation from an outside point of view.
Identify your weak points – what gets you worked up about the situation, agitates you, makes you sad, or over react – and actively try to identify your bias.
Your emotions and logic will need to came together to take a wise minded neutral point of view.
When you are able to see things clearly and from a neutral point of view you are ready to perform your tarot reading.
WHEN YOU CAN’T READ OBJECTIVELY
Try some of the following options if you find that you are having difficulty staying objective:
- pretend you are reading for a friend.
- step away from your cards and come back with a fresh perspective
- ask your cards for advice
- trust your intuition
- do a pros and cons list
- imagine a scenario where both options are true
- narrow it down to the most important factors that would make or break your decision, then decide
If you continue to struggle with objectivity you can always get a second opinion. Seek out the opinion of someone who can communicate clearly what you need to hear in a way that you can actually hear it.
In other words find some one whom you trust that will not sugar coat things.
CONCLUSION
No one can ever be 100%, purely objective. We are not Vulcan. We’re human!
No matter what the tarot tells you, you will always know that your true answer lies within you. After all, our reaction to the cards will determine if we agree or disagree with the outcome.
This reaction will tell you your answer.
You can identify this bias in others if you pay attention to the pattern of the questions they are asking. This theme will be your give away.
Don’t be afraid to notice the details.
If you or your querent is unhappy with the outcome of the reading remember, your future is not set in stone. It is fluid and can change on a whim.
You create your own future. Go out there and make yours!
